BuildPass alternatives for small builders, and how Foreman compares

Foreman is the QR code site induction and site diary app for small Australian builders. Here is how it compares with BuildPass, a site management platform for builders of every size, on price, what's free and what workers have to do to induct.

Every BuildPass detail checked against BuildPass’s own pages on 12 October 2026.

The short answer

For a small builder who wants to start today, Foreman is the simpler BuildPass alternative. Workers induct in the browser with no profile or SMS code, the site diary is on every plan, and your first project is free with every feature, then it's $29 a month for each person with a login. BuildPass publishes no prices and charges by admin logins, with scheduling and defects in higher plans and estimating as an add-on.

Moving from BuildPass

Set up a project, add your site documents and SWMS, and put the QR sign on the gate. Workers induct on their own phone the next time they arrive, and your crew can write the day's diary entry from the same app. Your first project is free, so you can run one job on both before you decide.

What it costs for a small team

BuildPass: no published price. Its pricing page says you pay by plan and by how many admin users need a login, so ask for a quote.

Foreman: a team of 6 with logins costs $174 a month, or $139.20 a month billed yearly. Subbies and visitors who only induct at the gate are free, however many there are.

Other BuildPass alternatives

  • HammerTech

No published prices. Not per user: based on annual construction volume, company size and the onboarding you need, including implementation and training.

  • LinkSafe

No published prices. Modular, with no per-company or per-person charges if you run it yourself. A managed Concierge service can be funded by your contractors.

What Foreman leaves out, on purpose

Foreman does site inductions, the site diary, crew hours, tasks, forms and project documents, and keeps them simple enough for the whole crew. It leaves out estimating, quoting, invoicing, scheduling and job costing. If you need those in the same system as your site records, a full construction management platform will suit you better.
