Clock in and clock out
Stop chasing timesheets. Your crew clock in at the gate.
Crew scan the QR code when they arrive and clock out when they leave. Every shift lands on the job's diary with the hours and an on-site check, ready for payroll on Monday.
No credit card. Every feature and unlimited users on your first job.
Foreman is a timesheet app for Australian builders and tradies. Crew clock in by scanning the QR code at the site gate and clock out when they leave. Each shift saves to the job’s site diary with the hours and an on-site location check. Export a CSV for payroll. First job free, then $29 per login a month.
What your crew see, and what you see
Crew scan the gate QR when they arrive and tap Check out when they leave. Both times, Foreman checks the phone is within 250 metres of the site, and the shift lands in your diary list.

“I’m not chasing people anymore, and all site information is there if we are audited.”
Sound familiar?
- Hours arrive by text on a Friday night, and you build the timesheet from memory and a camera roll.
- Two people remember the same Tuesday differently, and one of them is invoicing you for it.
- A client queries a week of labour, and the only record is a whiteboard someone wiped.
With Foreman the hours are recorded at the gate, on the day, by the person who worked them.
How clock-in works
- Step 1Stick one QR code on the gateTurn on clock-in and print the poster. One company-wide code works at every site, and each site has its own as well.
- Step 2Crew clock in when they arriveThey scan the code with their phone camera, or tap Check in on Foreman's Home screen. It runs in the browser on the phone they already carry, with nothing to download.
- Step 3Clocking out saves the shiftWhen they leave, one tap saves a diary entry for the shift with the exact time on site. They can add a note and photos, or just go home.
What you have on Monday morning
- Every shift, by person and by job, with the hours already added up.
- An On site now count, and a Checked in today list showing who is clocked in, where, and since when.
- Forgotten clock-outs closed automatically after 12 hours, so nobody racks up a 40-hour shift.
- Site managers fix a missed shift, and every change is kept in the entry's history.
- Filter by crew, job and dates, then export a CSV for payroll or invoicing.
Location is read twice a shift: at clock-in and clock-out
Many time clock apps track crew by GPS all day, and crews push back. Foreman checks the phone is within 250 metres of the site when someone clocks in and when they clock out. Nothing is tracked in between.
The same QR code runs your site sign-in and inductions, so subbies and visitors induct at the gate for free, and every shift sits in the job’s site diary next to the photos and notes from that day.
What it costs
Your first job is free with every feature and unlimited users, with no time limit. After that it’s $29 a month for each person with a login, or $23.20 a month billed yearly. So 8 people with a login, you included, is $232 a month. Subbies and visitors who only induct are never counted. See Foreman pricing.
See exactly how it works in the help centre: crew check in and check out, turning on clock-in, fixing a missed shift and exporting hours for payroll.

Clock-in and timesheet questions
- Is Foreman a clock-in and clock-out app?
- Yes. Crew clock in by scanning the QR code at the gate or tapping Check in on Foreman's Home screen, and clock out when they leave. Foreman records the time on site for every shift, checks whether they were on site (with location on), and saves the shift to the job's diary.
- Do my crew need to download an app?
- No. Foreman runs in the browser on any phone, including older ones, so there is nothing to install from an app store. Each crew member has their own login, and clocking in is a scan of the gate QR.
- Does it track my crew's location all day?
- No. Location is read only at the moment someone clocks in and clocks out, to check they were on site. Nothing is tracked in between, which is usually the first thing a crew asks.
- Does it use geofencing?
- Yes. With location on, Foreman checks the phone is within 250 metres of the site at clock-in and again at clock-out. A shift recorded further away is flagged Off site.
- Does it work with Xero?
- Through a CSV. Export the shifts for the pay period and your bookkeeper imports that file into Xero or any payroll system. You can also connect Claude or ChatGPT to both Foreman and Xero and ask it to check hours against invoices.
- Does it work out award rates, breaks and overtime?
- Foreman records the time each person was on site, shift by shift and job by job. Your payroll system applies award rates, breaks and overtime to those hours, from the CSV you export each pay period, so the rules stay where your bookkeeper already manages them.
- What happens if someone forgets to clock out?
- The shift closes automatically after 12 hours and is marked so you can see it. A site manager can then set the right hours, and the change is recorded in the entry's history.
- How do the hours get to payroll?
- Filter the site diary to the pay period and export a CSV of every shift, by person and by job. Your bookkeeper works from that file, and the same hours back up what you invoice each client.
- How much does it cost?
- Your first job is free with every feature and unlimited users. After that it is $29 a month for each person with a login, or $23.20 a month billed yearly. So 8 people with a login, you included, is $232 a month. Subbies and visitors who only induct at the gate are never counted.
- Can subbies clock in too?
- Yes, if you give them a login, and then they count as a user. Subbies who only need to induct at the gate do that for free with the same QR code, with no login.
