How to set up Foreman and your first project
From signing up to a project that's ready for the gate. About ten minutes, no card needed.
To set up Foreman, sign up with your email and a password, enter your business name, then create your first project with a name and the site address. That first project is free with no time limit. Once it exists, check the site induction, print the QR poster for the gate and add your crew.
Allow about ten minutes. Have the job's site address handy, plus an email address for you and for anyone on the crew who'll be logging in.
Create your account
You only do this once. Whoever signs up is the one running Foreman for the business, and that makes them an Admin.
- Go to app.foremanapp.com.au/signup.
- Enter your Email and a Password (at least 4 characters).
- Tap Create account.
- On the Set up your business screen, enter your Business name. Website is optional.
- Tap Continue.
You won't be asked for a card or a plan. Every new account starts on the Free plan. Foreman sends a confirmation email too, but you can ignore it for now and get straight into the app.
Create your first project
A project is one job, usually one site. Everything else in Foreman hangs off it: the induction, diary entries, documents and tasks.
- On Projects, tap New project.
- Enter the Project name.
- Start typing the Site address and pick the right suggestion from the list.
- Fill in Owner / client contact, Access & gate codes and Description if you want to. They're all optional and you can add them later.
- Tap Create project.
You land on the new project's page. Where you can, pick the address from the suggestions, because that's how Foreman works out whether a diary entry was logged on site. A typed-in address still saves, but entries on that project will show location as missing.
What to set up next
Work through these in order. Get the first two done and you can run inductions at the gate from day one.
- Check the site induction. It works straight away with a standard declaration. To add site rules, open the project, tap View all on the Induction card and edit the Declaration. See how to set up a site induction.
- Print the QR poster. On the project page, open the Download menu and choose Site posters. The poster carries the QR code that opens the induction. See printing QR code posters.
- Add your team. In the project's Team card, tap Edit, then Add member, then Add new user. You set each person's initial password and pass it on. See how to add your team.
- Add documents. Upload plans and specs under Project documents, and safety documents under OHS Information. Visitors see the OHS documents before they sign the induction.
Subbies, visitors and inspectors don't need an account. They scan the QR code and do the induction in their phone's browser, so there's nobody to chase for a login.
Good to know
- One project is free, for good. The Free plan covers the first project you ever create, with unlimited users and inductions on it. Trying to create a second project opens the upgrade screen. Archiving the first one doesn't free up the slot. See Free plan and paid plan.
- Only Admins create projects. Crew and site managers can't.
- If you closed the browser before entering your business name, you'll be taken back to that screen next time you log in. Finish it and you're in.
- One email, one account. If you sign up with an email that already has a Foreman account, you'll be asked to log in instead.
- Your timezone defaults to Sydney time. If you build somewhere else, change it under Settings > Business so diary dates match the days you actually worked.
