How to upload and find site photos in Foreman
Photos go on a diary entry or straight onto a project, and they all end up in one place you can filter by job, person and date.
Site photos in Foreman are saved against a project in one of two ways: attached to a site diary entry, or uploaded on their own with Upload photo. Either way, they all end up in Photos, where you can browse every project at once and filter by project, by who took them, by date, or by whether they came from the diary.
Where photos come from
Diary photos are taken while someone logs their day. They belong to that diary entry and sit alongside the date, hours and description, which is what makes them useful later. A photo of a cracked pipe means a lot more when the entry next to it says which day it was found and what was going on. See how to log a site diary entry.
Project photos are uploaded straight to a project, with no diary entry. Use these when you want to grab something on site but you're not logging your day yet.
Photos aren't attached to tasks. If you've logged a defect as a task, put the photo on that day's diary entry. See how to create and assign tasks.
Upload a photo to a project
Anyone with a login can do this: Admins, Site Managers and Site Crew. Site Managers and crew can only upload to projects they're assigned to.
- On Home, tap Upload photo. You can also tap Upload photo at the top of the Photos page.
- Under Project, pick the job.
- Under Photos, tap Add and take the photo. Add as many as you need.
- Wait for each photo to finish uploading. Save stays greyed out until they're all done.
- Tap Save.
Photos are taken with the phone's camera inside Foreman and stay in Foreman. They aren't saved to the phone's gallery, so your camera roll doesn't fill up with slab pours and footings.
Browse photos
Tap Photos in the menu. On a phone it's in the bottom bar. You'll see a grid of photos, newest first, loading 48 at a time with a Load more button at the bottom.
Filter the grid with:
- Project, to see one job.
- Uploaded by, to see one person's photos.
- A date range, for a particular day or week.
- Source: All photos, Diary photos or Project photos.
Tap a photo to open it full size. For a diary photo, Open details takes you to the diary entry it belongs to.
You can also see one project's photos from the project page. On the Site diary card tap View all, then switch to the Photos tab. It shows that project's diary photos and project photos together.
Who sees which photos
An Admin sees every photo on every project. A Site Manager sees all the photos on the sites they manage, plus their own. Site Crew see only the photos they took themselves.
Delete a photo
Only an Admin can delete photos. Open the photo, tap the delete icon, check it's the right one, then tap Delete permanently. There's no undo, so take a second look first. Deleting a diary photo removes it from that diary entry, but the entry itself stays.
Good to know
- Foreman shrinks photos before uploading, so they go up quicker on patchy site signal.
- Photos need a connection to upload. If one photo in a batch fails, the others are still saved and you can retry the one that didn't make it.
- You can't upload photos to an archived project.
- Photos aren't included in the diary CSV export. To review photos, use the Photos page.
- A connected AI assistant can list a project's photos and upload new ones. See what you can ask your AI assistant.
